Reunited in heaven

I’ve never been fond of cemeteries. And not for the obvious reason that almost everyone isn’t fond of them.

While I appreciate the eulogies and stories that are often shared, especially if there is a graveside service, I tend to find myself feeling a little detached. And the reason for this is probably because I know (๐™ž๐™ฉ ๐™ž๐™จ ๐™ข๐™ฎ ๐™—๐™š๐™ก๐™ž๐™š๐™›) that is not where my loved one really is.

Yes, their body is there. But their essence, who they were and are, their soul…this is not there. The souls of my loved ones and your loved ones are eternal and they do not die. Souls leave behind bodies that have served as faithful homes. Souls proceed to live on in another space that is both all around us yet not able to be perceived by our 5 senses…usually.

Signs from our loved ones

I say “usually” because I have both seen and heard loved ones who have passed away. This has been a rare occurrence for me, and I mostly sense them through feelings, “signs” they guide me to, or in my dreams.

Today we had a graveside service for my father. He was buried right next to my mom, overlooking a beautiful pond with many trees all around. Right after the service, my daughter asked me if I’d seen the red cardinal fly past all of us, and while I missed it because I was lost in my thoughts, I immediately remembered that the red cardinal is a reminder that our loved ones in spirit live on forever.

And as we were driving home from the service, I was thinking about how my mom was reunited with my dad and was hopefully guiding him on this early part of his spiritual journey. And just after this I saw 3 license plates in succession with the numbers 29 (my mom’s birthday), 39 (my mom’s birth year) and 59 (the year my parents were married).

Coincidence? Could be, except I don’t believe in coincidences…I believe in synchronicities and signs. And there’s little doubt in my mind or heart that this was my mom’s way of telling me that she is once again with my dad.
